![]() to summit is approximately 2 miles. Another approach to Saddleback's summit is via the Appalachian Trail. This approach is twice as long as the ski lift hike, but much more gradual, and passes Piazza Rock and several small ponds. Pick up the AT on Route 4 south of Rangeley. This is a beautiful hiking trip for the whole family! Summit height: 4,120 feet. SMALLS FALLS: This popular roadside picnic area boasts several scenic, neighboring waterfalls surrounded by sculptured cliffs on the Sandy River and Chandler Mill Stream. The falls drop 54 feet with swimming and wading pools at the bottom. Cross the footbridge and follow the walking trail along the stream to other falls. Located 12 miles south of Rangeley on Rt. 4. This area offers picnic tables, grills, and restroom facilities.
